Stupid pot question

Anders	Stupid pot question I don't get this. I'm just repairing an old Korg synth in which one of the pots had gone bad. The pot is stamped 100kOhmB and after what I've learnt, it should be logarithmic but it shows half resistance at half rotation, just like a linear pot. I also measured another similair pot in the synth and another jap pot marked B, same result, but other european B-stamped pots show a MUCH lower value at half rotation, indicating a logarithmic characteristic. So what's up? Are the jap pots just logarithmic in their lower portion? And doesn't european B mean the same as japanese B? And how about american B?
