Only one stage of overdrive, whith a "1meg" plate resistor (haha) I tried that circuit in an old Fender chassis and it was cool kind of like the lead sound of some of the earlier eagles stuff,"ALREADY GONE", "HOTEL CALIFORNIA", etc. I also had a Mark III, And had Boogie, mod it for a blusier sound. It did sound better, and I should of kept it also, but at the time I needed the money and sold it. I have a schematic somewhere for that too, also the MarkIIC+ is a very good sounding and sought after Boogie, more vintage, though I really like the sound of the Mark I, the amp Carlos Santana uses. A channel switching based Mark I would sound great! Unlike the newer stuff, (stock "HEART BREAKER") which is a bit on the aggresive side, but some will like that, and some won't, but it is closer to that vintage sound, but I think the circuit Gil Ayan (modified MarkI) has, is probably the Boog you may want to check out.... I really like the tone of a good Dumble, but who can afford one?....... (build one!).........Also Al Dimeola, ( I hope I spelled that right) Larry Carlton and some others have also used the MarkI. They are not so buzz saw gainy, but more creamy, silky, and sustainier ala Carlos Santana. He had said once in a Guitar Player mag. that the new stuff that Boogie makes sounds like something on your teeth, so I hope they are not going to forget about us old vintage tone freaks...haha. Meanwhile I will build my own amp and know how the darn thing works (well most of it). Good luck! Ed |
