| Deltablues | Re: '72 Strat Sadly, $1200 is about the going rate for a 72. I've seen them as high as $1400. But consider the following before you leap... The 70's were considered the "dark years" for Fender guitars. The 3 bolt neck started in 1971 and signaled a time in which production numbers and cheaper materials were the main priority for CBS era Fender. The 3 bolt neck caused a variety of ills from poor tuning to bad neck alignments. 70's guitars also had the "F" style tuners instead of the Kluson Deluxe tuners which were dropped in 69. Also during this time the bridges were switched from 2 piece steel to Die-cast 1 piece chrome Mazac tremolos and the old truss rod was changed to a bullet style. Finally, lots of the pickups in this era were less than stellar in performance due to relatively nonexistent quality assurance going on. Just make sure it all checks out ok before you part with your hard earned cash... |
