Re: Lower power octal alternative to 6V6 ??
I'll second the notion of trying 6AQ5s. It's easy to make up a little adaptor rig to put 6AQ5s in a 6V6 circuit. (Not a Deluxe Reverb,) They break up sooner and are not as loud. 2 x 6AQ5 PP Class A make a nice recording amp or club rig if mic'd. I have an old Fender Musicmaster Bass amp (they made both 6V6 and 6AQ5 versions) that fills the bill nicely. Plus they're not terribly expensive.

This way you can build the Super SE as described, then make some 8-pin to 7-pin adaptors and have at it. Or why not take their concept to its logical extension, and put in a pair of 7-pin (or whatever) sockets as they did for preamp tubes?
