| Bruce | Re: 5E3 + ts808 + 4X12 = ?... YIKES! :>) I can't imagine a good tweed Deluxe sounding "killer" with a stomp box on the front end unless it's not a Fender Deluxe, you really keep the box on the verge of sounding like it has none and or the volume is way down too! To me, that would be a classic example of "one man's bread is another man's poison." Since you did mention a pair of little BR-8's can I assume this is not a Fender tweed Deluxe? Or, are the two speakers configured correctly for the right 8 ohm Zed and in a ext cabinet? IOW: Is it a real one... with a 12AY7 in the front end? Hmmm... Try a 5751 or 12AX7 in the front instead. Here's some ideas I've messed with on my 14W Soulkicker amp that is based on 5E3. If it's a homebrew or if it is a real 5E3 and you don't care about collectibility(sp?)... pull the 100K plate load resistor off the V1b (12AY7) and use a 160K to 180K. Now try a 5751 or 12AX7 again. Pull the 500pF treble bypass cap off the tone section and replace it with a 680pF silver mica cap. Split the cathode Rk/Ck combo on the first tube (12AY7) and use a 1uF/2K2 on V1b (with the 150K to 180K plate load) and replace th e.1uF coupling cap with a .01uF cap. On the other triode V1a use a 10uF/1K5 for Rk/Ck with the stock 100K plate load resistor. Now you can jumper the channels together (like you would with a 4 input Marshall) and use the other volume control to add more to the other one (the other one being the one that really has the tone control connected to it's volume pot).
