I'm a little behind, I guess I don't understand why two resistors adding up to a desired vaule is better than just using one resistor of the desired value. I am missing something basic?  
 
 
 
And another thing, why aren't the 1M grid resistors of a PI (Split load or Long tail) just taken directly to ground anyway, what does connecting them to a cathode tap do.
