| Farrow | The oil is... Here's the scoop: The oil is actually Singer sewing machine oil. I can't remember who told me this, but it does work. This oil may be the same as transformer oil, I don't know. Singer later changed to permanantly lubricated bearings because this oil was discovered to be a mild carcinogen (like saccharine -- remember TAB?) but you can still find it in one place: Go to antique store, thrift shop or garage sales and look at sweing tables -- you know, the kind with the drop-down leaves that the machine folds into. Look in the little storage compartment in the table, and 6 times out of ten you'll find a little squirt bottle of oil in there. DO NOT HANDLE THIS STUFF more than necessary. Like CJ says, a little drop will do ya. I never put more oil in there than enough to cover 1/4" of the disc. Farrow |
