| Barry | Re: New Sovtek 12AX7 LPS Preamp Tubes I have a pair of the Sovtek 12AX7LPS in my Mesa/Boogie Quad preamp. They are great. They seem to be very balanced and flat (as in no real bias in the tonal spectrum one way or the other), like my experiences with the Telefunken. My subjective impression is that the LPS is less gainy than say a Ruby 7025STR or GE JAN 12AX7WA. I have GEs, various Sovteks, Ruby 7025STRs, Teles and others that I have tried. My previous favorites were the Ruby and the GE in that order. I really like the LPS in this preamp. Bottom end response is tighter than the Mesa's I replaced. A slight sacrifice in gain but the Quad is plenty gainy anyway. I think they'd be great in a "Fender clean" situation as they are very hi-fi. I haven't yet tried them in anything else since I could only buy two at the time. Barry |
