Quoting text in replies
Though I am enjoying the many creative ways you guys have come up with for setting off quoted text in your replies, I thought I should mention that the quoting feature from the old BBS has been ported over to this one for those who feel inclined to use it.

For those who may not be familiar with it (or those who have forgotten), here's how it's done:

\
quote:
"text-to-be-quoted"

Whatever text appears between the curly braces will be rendered in gray italics and indented, like this:

quote:
"Had this been an actual emergency, you would have been given instructions to tune..."

Of course you're still free to use whatever method you please, including HTML if you know it, but one thing to be avoided is the use of the '<' and '>' characters like this:

<text-to-be-quoted>

If you do this your quoted text will very likely just disappear, because it looks like an HTML tag to your web browser.

Lastly, I'd like to stress that quoting relevant portions of previous posts is a good thing if it adds clarity to your reply, but always quoting entire posts as a matter of course just adds clutter and wastes space.
