Doc,

Funny you should mention broken locating pins....

Actuaally when he brought the Fender 30 in it still had three tubes in it:

Two 12AX7's

One 5U4GB with A BROKEN LOCATOR pin. Not on the 6.3vac circuit but:

He also brought me a '68 Bandmaaster head with two Fender Branded 6L6 tubes in it. One of them was ALSO missing a locator pin. I wonder if those tubes were originally in the F30.....

Obviously this individual has problems inserting and removing tubes.

ALSO I found that one of the lamp socket tabs was VERY close to touching the chassis. It isn't touching and there was no continutity between the chassis and either leg of the 6.3vac winding but I bet you couldn't put a piece of paper in between the chassis and the tab. I wonder if something flexes just enough when the amp is screwed into the cab.

ANYWAY, I'm going to make sure the lamp isn't touching and try the hum balance thing again with a fresh pot.

I'm thinking of breaking the 6.3 circuit and putting my meter in series with it. My meter can measure AC current.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Interesting.
