My experience is that carbon resistors sound warm and natural while carbon film and metal film resistors sound bright and brittle. NOS Allen Bradley carbon resistors are readily available from some specialty dealers. Be careful though. The good ones were made in Milwaukee, WI back in the sixties. Later AB switched production to Mexico and quality went down hill.
