| Brad | Bogen CHB50 Hi All, I recently picked up an old Bogen CHB50 tube amp for next to nothing. It has a 6EU7, 12AX7,6C4/EC90, and two 6L6's. I figured I'd try to see if it can be turned into a guitar amp head. So far, I've added a 1/4" input jack bridged to input 1 and 2. I also added a 1/4" speaker jack with a switch to select from the 4 or 8 ohm outputs. (It has those old screw-on mic connectors for the 1 & 2 inputs, and an RCA jack for the Aux. In.) So, it has Mic 1, Mic 2, Aux, Master, Bass, and Treble controls. Now I have a couple questions. What would be good capacitors to replace on the bass/and or/treble controls. Also, as long as I have my hand on my guitar, it's relatively quiet-but it starts buzzing when i let go. I know this is a ground problem, but does anyone have an idea WHERE? The treble also starts squealing REALLY bad past about 7. This thing actually seems like it could sound halfway decent if I could figure these things out. Any hints would be GREATLY appreciated. ( I'd just take it to Bruce, but I wanted to see if I could get it going first---kinda like my first venture into DIYland.) Thanks, Brad |
