A guy I knew in college had a '61 Std with "Les Paul" on the truss rod cover, and a '62 Custom with "Les Paul" written somewhere on it -- trus rod cover or in between the neck and neck pickup. CRS... I didn't check the serial numbers for date myself. The label change probably happened in the middle of '62, as a guess. I don't know when they changed the neck joint and pickguard, but it had to have been by '67. I'm not a real AC/DC fan, but from the pics I've seen, Angus plays both models, but seems to play the later version more often.
FWIW, the neck on the custom was very different. The only neck I've felt like it was on an early Dean Flying V I played for a moment somewhere. Those fretless wonder frets sure bite for bending.
