Re: Quartersawn Wood
Fender also used quartersawn necks on their Closet Classic Esquires (50 or 100 made). These are copies of George Fullerton's personal Esquire. The one piece maple neck is quartersawn and there is no truss-rod. The very first Esquires (which pre-date The Broadcaster) had no truss-rods. The Custom Shop Closet Classic (copy Esquire) also has a 100 year old pine body. The guitar is extremely light! These guitars had a list price at around $4,000. However, I've seen several for sale at around $2,000.

I heard necks aren't quartersawn because more wood is wasted (they'd get less necks out of the log). I can imagine it would take a considerable amount of time to shape the neck as well - getting the right amount of bow/relief in the neck. These necks are solid and don't budge.
