Years ago (mid-80s), I made my own custom pickguard from a sheet of plain old ABS plastic. I bought it from A1 Plastics in Austin, Tx, for a LOT less money than the ready-made "pickguard" material found in music stores. Plus, at the cheaper price you can afford to experiment more. Good luck.
