| andyfuchs | Re: Building a Masonite guitar The easy way would be to make a sandwich of plywood (I've considered balsa wood cuz it's strong and light), and make a frame that forms the sides, a center block, and a place to bolt the neck on. Masonite top and bottom (I also thought a colored or mirrored plexiglass might be cool), and have a blast. You can cut one sheet, and use it as a template for additional sheets after that, until the whole body is designed. Not a router in sight ! You could even use a table saw to notch the center block for where the pickups would be. I'd make sure I had a full block from bottom to top, so the body was rigid overall. I thought of doing a GP article on how to do this, but didn't think there would be a ton of interest. AF |
