For typical passive (i.e., high impedance) tone circuits in electric guitars, electrolytics are neither required nor practical.  
 
First of all, the circuits require caps that are non-polarized (such as ceramic and film dielectric types), and most electrolytics are polarized; i.e., they have positive and negative terminals. Yes, there are such things as non-polarized electrolytic caps, but these are regarded as even worse performers (for transferring audio signals) than the polarized ones. Secondly, passive tone circuits rarely use caps having values above 0.1uF, and electrolytics start at 0.47uF and go up from there.
