| terry | Re: Kinmans kill, man Hi Jim, Your point is well taken. The Fralins are, by design, different pups that the Kinman Traditional AVn. For that matter, a comparison between the Fralin Blues and the Kinmans would also need to be qualified, as the Kinman Blues are also aged. The Kinman Woodstocks are not, but that is a different pup as well. Also, the two guitars I was comparing are very different. The Anderson has hollow cavities, which will clearly affect the tone (according to Anderson: "greater harmonic content with softer-but still pronounced-sparkling highs, rich low lows and a slightly softer pick (midrange) attack"). Direct comparisons can't be made. I never felt that the Anderson gave me great strat tones. I've got to say, the swamp ash / maple / fralins give me some pretty righteous strat tones. I have had the Kinmans for almost two months. After my initial giddiness about them, I sobered up a bit and have become more objective in my evaluation. That is where I was at with my original post. Given all that, I would not hesitate to recommend them, either for their hum reduction or their sonic qualities. My long-winded point is to understand what you tones you are looking for and map that back to the instrument (duh). I understand more than I did two months ago. Terry |
