Yep, got my Deluxe and Standard backwards. Looking in the 12-98 GP Les Paul Legends, it gives a somewhat confusing timeline of the LP.Goldtops were made from early '50s to discontinued in '58, with several changes in PUs and bridge/tails. In '68, the P90 Goldtop, NOW called the Standard, is produced for only one year. Goldtops appear again in '72, called Les Paul Standard '58, and disappear in '73. In '82, the Les Paul 30th Anniversary appears, which is a copy of the '58 Goldtop, with some trapezoid inlays. Les Paul Reissue Goldtop appears in '85. (Doesn't sayhow long the reissue lasted). The '90s Goldtops are Les Paul Classics, which currently list for over $3800.
All the one's I've seen and drooled over were well over $2K,but maybe I just haven't found the right garage sale, with the kindly old lady selling her late husband's stuff cheap.
Anyway, a Les Paul, be it Standard, Deluxe, or Classic is still better than most.
Next time, I'll look BEFORE opinionating...(yeah right).
(I'd still love finding a Goldtop for $1500).
