But, with the mini-HBs in P-90 slots, the multipiece necks and backs, less choice woods, etc. it was an "entry level" LP. Of course, the Deluxe had been available for a few years before the Standards came back from a 13 year hiatus. Standards seemd to appreciate and hold their value the best for the longest time, with that value going up every time Gibson raises the price of the new models. But, eventually, anything LP-related from the '70's became just as collectible. I bought my LP Deluxe from a dealer for $650 in great condition in '93 (with original case), now he sells ones in worse shape than mine for $1,220 or so, about the same he asks for a Standard from the same time period. -Y. |
