| anonymous | Re: Kinman Pickups The Kinmans pick up far less hum than the average conventional side-by-side humbucker (with AlNiCo bar magnet) A side-by-side humbucker with identical coils (screws in both coils, equal wire gauge and winding number) picks up less hum than the Kinmans. If you are looking for the quietest 'single coil' you may go with the Bill Lawrence L280, which employs (I'm not 100% shure, I had a look at it's predecessor the Keystone K280) two identical coils with pole pieces extending through both coils. Ceramic magnets are attached between the coils from both sides. The Keystones are loud but don't really come close to a vintage strat tone, IMHO, probably due to high D.C. resistance. The same as for Kinmans applies for the Virtual Vintage and the dual blade (Cruiser) pickups from DiMarzio. The coils are different and thus will pick up more hum. The Kinmans sound far better than the VV, but pick up a little more hum. I can't comment on the Joe Barden dual blade design. |
