P90s usually have black plastic covers. You might seem them in white from time to time. The chrome covered guys are humbuckers of some sort.  
 
The circa 72 SG I referenced was a little odd in that it had P90s instead of the more typical humbuckers. I believe current SG's use humbuckers exclusively
