I think they recommended that you reserve part of the epoxy and put it on a separate sheet of saran wrap so you can monitor how hard it has gotten. Then when the epoxy is set up and fairly firm but not totally cured yet you disassemble the guitar and remove the shim... I guess that makes it easier to get the bolts out etc.
