I also like heavy woods, but apparently those fabled old Gibsons - the ones with the now-forbidden hardwoods - carried rather light timbers. Gibson state they try to get the lightest while having nicely straight and even grain. I imagine lighter wood resonates more, which can but also cannot be a good thing.
