| Hi | Re: Kinman pickups The "AVn" types are designed to be less "loud" than new pickups, to imitate the lower output of older single coils, which seem to lose output quicker than humbuckers. For example, the humbuckers on the '68 L.P. I use are still pretty "loud" in comparison to single-coil strat p.u.s in a guitar half as old, even taking into account the difference in initial output. Stock strat p.u.s ten years old are significantly louder than stock strat p.u.s 15 years old, etc. So the Kinmans in general are designed to mirror that, although he does make one line designed to have the appropriate output of new (but vintage-style) pickups.
