| DanF | Re: 448VDC on the plate of a 6V6 (using a 6X5 rectifier tube) Hi Cole – So changing the cathode resistor to a higher value (i.e. 470 ohms) will lower the idle current, and also drop the plate voltage (or plate-to-cathode voltage)? If I plug 470 ohms into the formula above, I get approximately 12ma (I realize the plate and cathode voltages will also change so this may not be accurate). I’m willing to experiment with different cathode resistor values, although it would be nice if I can estimate which values to try. Also, to do this, does anyone have a source or recommendations for higher wattage resistors? The cathode resistor in there now is a large carbon comp – I’m assuming it’s 5 watts, it may be 3 watts.
