| Rick Erickson | Re: My bass amp keeps cutting out!!! (again) Q{The deal is: I own 2 heads - one Hartke and one Ampeg. Both keep cutting the signal to the speaker. What could it be? Overheating? Clipping? Impedence mismatch? None of the technical personnel I have talked to seem to agree with any of these ideas.} When you say technical personel do you mean people who actually work on these amps for a living? Assuming these are both solid state output bass amps, both of these amps are notorious for bad solder connections on their pc boards. Do both amps hesitate and then click when you first turn on the power switch? This click is the output protection relay connecting the output of amp to the speaker jack. If the amp senses a fault such as heavy clipping, sub harmonic frequencies or DC voltage on the output it will turn off the relay and disconnect the amp from the speaker until the fault condition is gone. I recomend having both these amps gone through by a good service shop and checked thoroughly for loose solder connections, bad crimp connections etc. My psychic guess is the emitter resistors on the power transistors are loose, & who knows what else...
