| Greg | Deluxe 5C3 problems I recently cloned a Fender Deluxe 5C3 out of an old Webster electric PA type amp (on account that it had all the tubes: 5Y3, 6V6's, 6Sx7's, that the 5C3 required). It works, however there seems to be ALOT of nasty (crossover?) distortion even at very low volumes. I've never built an amp with this style phase-splitter (don't understand what makes it tick) and it has no bias adjustment, so I'm wondering what can I do? Is this a result of a biasing problem? The 6V6's after a few minutes seem to heat up considerably if it makes any difference. One last thing, instead of using a 25uf cap on the cathodes of power tubes, I used a 50uf, is that a big problem? The webster used a similar style PI and had the 50uf already there, so I left it. ANY info is really appreciated. Thanks a bunch... Greg |
