Beto | Re: Torres Champ Mod? For my very first amp project I bought the kit from Torres and performed all of his suggested mods on a '66 Champ. I LOVE IT. Before the mod, the amp was too clean for me and a bit harsh on the high end. After the mod, I got a tone very similar to Clapton's strat tone on the Layla album...Key to The Highway kind of tone. Next I replaced the speaker with a Weber...a cheap one...like 20 bucks. GREAT. No more bass farting... The end result was for me, a better amp, that sounds great with humbuckers or with single coils. Just two nights ago I compared my stock Princeton Reverb set clean with a FullTone II vs the Champ. Champ wins. Similar grind but more bass. |
