Ahhhh to add more food to your thoughts... All the work I do on amps, whether it be a mod or whatever, I try to make look as clean as possible... and whenever I'm in doubt, I'll look at a pic of a Harry Joyce wired Hiwatt, and realize, my lead dress SUCKS *laugh*. Seriously though, I dont believe that you CAN't get the sound you want AND have things look neat and professional. As for sound being first. I'd personally have an amp for myself that may have been built in an old Traynor chassis etc, because a) it will be less likely be stolen, after all, it don't look like a plexi, so it cant be one, (even though the sound and parts tell a different story) and secondly.... if the drummer happens to knock a cymbal into the top of the amp and tears up the tolex, and shears off a knob... I'd feel a lot worse if it was a cherry '68 plexi, or a tweedy fender. NOW as for production work, I recently left a prototype of a design I want to put into full production, to be used, and abused by a handful of good, local musicians... ones I trust to put it thru its paces, and give feedback on it. I was evne more meticulous to make sure chassis bolts were sealed with loctite, wires neatly bundled etc, and not a speck of dirt on it... why? because I want the image of my work to be of highest quality... afte all, if I make a prototype look so clean, imagien what my production cabs etc will do. OK so now this is getting long... but the point is... there is a fine line between visually pleasing and aurally pleasig..
