Transformer shunt method on single ended amps?

Transformer shunt method on single ended amps? I understand the procedure for reading plate current using the transformer shunt method on push-pull amps -- but how is this method performed on single ended amps, where there is no center tap on the output transformer? Can I simply hook the DC ammeter across the two leads of the output transformer (i.e., from the plate of the output tube to the opposite end of the output transformer?) The amp books and tech web pages don't clearly explain this. Thanks - Dan
