They don't have to be expensive unless you are in a big hurry (sometimes I am, sometimes I'm not). It can be kind of fun hunting them down, either way. Cost can also be defrayed by strategic use. Consider a Tele for the first stage pre-amp. How about a Mullard for that reverb recovery stage. Sovteks work great in that tremolo circuit.
