JWK | re: lower gain preamp tube: soldano? David, I've played a lot with my HR50. See the post about amp hiss. Anyway, the best "clean-up" on the preamp I have found to date is a 12AU7 in the first position and a 5751 in the second position. As my post/question states, the hiss and noise with the master on full is unacceptable, but the clean tone itself is surprisingly good for an amp of this sort. I would play a lot more with different tubes if it wasn't for all that noise. John |
