| drewl | Re: advice on good quality channel switching amp after recently aquiring an AC30, i haven't tried any pedals in front of it because i got rid of most of them. the AC30 sounds incredible alone, but is WAY louder than I thought! I don't know about quality, but my jcm800 2210 has good tones (after some work) and is a relatively cheap channel switching amp. mainly i installed good tubes (svetlana el34's, and jj/tesla 12ax7's) put orange drops in the signal path. shielded cable in the pre-amps, and quieted the switching circuit. oh, i also put new pots in it. so quality?.....i don't know it's not a stock amp anymore, but is easy to work on and can be made to sound very well. other mods planned are possibly installing pots off the pc board, and maybe using the reverb tube/stage as an extra gain stage. |
