Responding to several points in this thread:  
 
I agree with Jeff, all the HC reviews concur that  
the main flaw in the SLO series is the high end.  
I can attest to the same problem with the Hot Rod series, as I have one of those. However, there were some changes in the later HR amps that supposedly mellowed the highs somewhat (when I've got some spare time, I'm going to try to update my amp).  
But you can't diss the cutting power of these amps, especially if you play in a loud band, which I do.  
 
I guess that $20k that Gil mentioned lets you have your cake and eat it too: cutting power with sweet top end. Hmmm, anybody know the goin rate for healthy kidneys? I've got an extra. :)  
 
Peter, Joe: I always thought Soldano used 6l6s because EL34s would get too mushy with a high-gain  
preamp. Is this a problem in your SLO clones?
