SamRe: Peavey 5150 hum problems
I usually just read all the excellent comments but I'll add something this time. Ted Nugent was sitting in with Max W. and his band on Conan a couple of weeks ago. I'm telling you that his 5150 hummed so bad that he was sitting next to it and had to flip it to standby quickly when they finished! I'm telling you I couldn't believe how bad it hummed. I really noticed it because I had a minor hum that bothered me but after hearing that,I told myself my hum was nothing compared to Nuge's amp! Conan even said, "Turn that damn thing off!". I've got it on tape and it cracks me up. And I know he had the volume down on his Byrdland because I would see him turn the amp on then turn up the pot on the guitar. As far as not noticing it at the shop, I know I've bought many guitars and amps and in all the excitement didn't notice a lot of things. I'm not saying that this is what happened but when you get excited about something it blinds you to the problems. My Deluxe Reverb has a slight hum and I'm paranoid about taking it in because the tone is awesome and I'd shit if the tone changed at the expense of losing the hum. Anyway thanks for letting me babble.
