Re: "Crossover notch" biasing - my final answer! (Long-winded rebuttal: Part 3; The Final Chapter)
Randy Jamz = PLONK.

You Randy started this whole mess by crapping on a guy who was trying to figure out how to accomplish a bias setting.

*This* engineer not only can fix stuff, he made top engineering wages *fixing* stuff while still in school. I'll put my W-2's from my bench days up as proof. So you can take that bit of conventional wisdom and flush it too. There are LOTS of engineers who are not only excellent engineers fully versed in the mathematics and science, but are also extremely capable and thorough techs in their own right. Not all electrical engineering disciplines require hands on experience and there's no reason for an EE involved in signal processing or semiconductor physics to be handy with a soldering iron. But believe me, there are PLENTY of EE's who are.

I doubt whether any of those "...same Marshalls I worked on 6 months earlier on the bench at old man 'Garnet's'..." had anything to do with 1-ohm cathode resistors or biasing methods. If he was giving you any dirty looks, it was probably due to the vast and thorough understanding of electronics you have thus far demonstrated. Or possibly your wonderful people skills.

As fas as 'scopes go, like I said, you'd be hard pressed to find any such scopes today. Of course, if anyone would carry such an item, it would be MCM. MCM is not exactly known as a top supplier of quality test instruments. I don't think even Fry's carries such low-line instruments. Even so, I doubt whether any of the scopes that MCM sells would have any trouble displaying crossover notch distortion.
