| Les | Re: Thoughts.... Carl sed: I can safely say that it seems that around 450 volts is a good compromise for most current production stuff out there. You get your voltages way up there and the amp sounds sterile. To which I reply: Carl, I can relate to the high voltages, I built a 5E5 Pro circuit around the tranny's and output tubes from an old Bell Labs PA. The pair of Tung-Sol 6550's are running with a plate voltage of 550v with the screens at 450v. It's loud and CLEAN running into an EV Force 15. The only way I can get any distortion out of it is to pull the 12AY7's and put in 12AX7's. |
