Re: Layout for high gain amps part II
Hey, well I can't give you the specific info you're seeking as I've yet to discover the perfect formula in high gain components placement yet either, but... The amp I'm working on now, has (8) 12ax7's, (2) 5U4G's and (2) 6L6's. It's a triple channel monster, all fit into a 22x8" chassis. As it is now, the first preamp tube is less than 1" from the output transformer. I've got a vertical steel panel that seperates the OPT, power tubes, power tranny etc from the preamp tubes bolted to the chassis (similar to what's done on HIWATTs) that I hope will block a good deal of the stray magnetics, etc. (fingers crossed). Worst comes to worse I'll move the OPT next to the power tranny (ala Marshall). Anyways, I'm shooting to power it up Monday-ish, I'll let you know how bad the noise gets with and without the shielding panel. Also I've found DC heaters to be worth the trouble (most of the time) on these amps.

Peace,
-Ryan
