| JCS | Pre amp tube plate voltage Hi All, I'm in the middle of tweaking my new SFVR and was wondering, how pre amp plate voltage affects tone. After I recaped and blackface the amp, it started motorboating. I traced that down to high plate voltage on the pre amp(270v). I think it was from changing the power res in the cap pan to blackface specs. So I changed to 4.7k and 10k as per AA270. That brought it down to about 180v, a little low, as the schmatic call for 200v. The amp originally came with 2.2k and 10k. Should I change the 4.7k to a 2.2k to get the voltage closer to 200v ? And what are the differences in tone, comparing low vs. high pre amp plate voltage. Also what about the tone difference in power tube plate voltages on this type of amp. I'm going for a nice blues tone, with easier break up and compression. I'll probably end up with some Weber alinco's in it. Thanks JCS |
