I just ordered some Levant vinyl from Marshall. It has a much closer grain than the 'Elephant' style vinyl, which sounds like the type you don't like. If you're going for a vintage look, Levant is the one for you, but be aware that it's not exactly like the real old vinyl used on vintage Marshalls.
