| Tim C. | Re: Sovtek Mig 50/60 Max, et al, I have worked on and modified a dozen Mig 50's and I believe they can be made to sound extremely good for the money. In my humble opinion I think you can actually make one sound better than a JTM45. Bruce is right on the money about replacing the pots and getting rid of the metal support strip for them. If you know the mod you want to do going into the project you can do it with a minimal amout of changing components looking for your sound. That saves tremendously on the stress to the circuit board traces. The traces are somewhat light so you do have to be careful with them. The secret to working on them is using a low wattage iron (15 watts) and using solder wick instead of a mechanical solder extraction device to remove existing components. (I learned that the hard way) I feel that with a little work you can make them into a stable gigging amp. Just my humble opinion. Tim C. |
