Never played a real Plexi but it can certainly get close to that early Van Halen sound when you crank the volume. And despite being only 15 watts, it's loud. I would recommend a P1 or its high gain brother,the High Octane, as a first project. Either can produce excellent sounds and are substantially simpler than the November or other two-output tube amps. Check out some of the sound samples and you'll see. Lee
