The most noticeable effect is a power loss. I believe they do sound as good as if one would use a power break. The EL 34’s do change the sound quite a bit and they do reduce headroom and breaks up early (a bit like 6V6). I believe they also reduce the output even more? I do prefer the 6L6 sound but the EL 84 is a nice alternative (at lower volume?). Bjorn
