| Ian Anderson | Re: THD Hotplate in the UK? These power soaks are definately harder on the amp than running it at lower volumes and you'll need to replace you output tubes more often. As far as blowing the OT, I think it depends on the age and build quality of your amp. An older, badly maintained amp might just buckle onder the strain, as might a new amp with a barely-adequate OT. Most amps should be fine though. Anyway, OT's aren't *that* expensive even if the worst happens. Must admit, I buy the correct amp for the job in the first place and don't need a soak, my bluesbreaker is just right volume-wise for cranking-up on stage, and the sound man can't shout at me because I am him (we've got our own PA gear). Might be a case for them in the house, but with that much attenuation, your tone will start to suck. Better to use them for slight reduction in dB. ... Ian |
