If I was only going to need one triode from a single 12AX7 socket, I would probably use both heaters anyway and wire the grids, plates, and cathodes in parallel too, single triode functionality using all the tube electrodes. Performance has been discussed previously, IIRC it might be the same gain with lower noise.
