Hi Mark,  
Check a Princeton schematic, you will notice that using the #2 jack this way is kinda like a "Y" cable. It's just that there will be a series resistance in the path to the PA, which may be a good thing for the PA input (of course you're getting straight from the guitar signal only, like plugging your guitar into the PA).  
 
You could build your amp with just the one input but;  
1. The “switching jack” (wired as per the schem) shorts the input to ground when nothing is plugged in, and you should do it that way.  
 
2. Use the 1M resistor (as per the schem)  
 
3. Use the 68k (after the jack w/1M) although this value is “tweekable”
