Re: Philips 6L6 STR 387s in a 5881 amp
I've got a pair of NOS RCA 5881 that are obviously their relabeling of the Philips (ex Sylvania) 6L6WGB. The boxes were printed in 1975 so I would expect that is after RCA was no longer making any tube themself that could sensibly be called a 5881.

Also the tubes that Richardson is now marking and boxing as Amperex 7581A/KT66 Made in USA NOS are REALLY just relabels of the same 6L6WGB. On careful inspection, you can see where the tubes were formerly marked 6L6WGB on the glass, it has been all but removed, and the bases marked 7581A/KT66.

These are good tubes, and I find them electrically interchangeable with other Philips/Sylvania 6L6GC, 7581A (taller than WGB), 7027, and 7027A with increasing headroom as you move up the series. Keeping also in mind pin compatibility issues with the 7027(A).
