| andyfuchs | Re: Transistor Gibson Les Paul Amp I remember this unit from the 70's when I worked in my Dad's music store. The catalog I have from the 70's says the following: THE LP-12 Amplifier was made in 1970 or so, (along with the Low-Z guitars with Les Paul on them). THe amp featured a low impedance input for these instruments, which otherwise used a matching transformer on their cords. The preamp included two channels with Vibrato,Tremelo, and Reverb. The preamp weighed 28lbs. The amp (which is bi-amped !), weighed only 83 lbs ! (so stop complaining). It had 4 12" and 2 horns, amd power output is listed at 190 W RMS. I think the Jack Darr book had a schematic. I recall the power amps were the same, except on the high end amp there were half as many output devices. They may have been transformer coupled transistor amps, but I forget. It was very loud and very clean (I saw one at a trade show). I doubt Les Ever used it, or could have lifted it. Last time I was it Les's house, he was using a homemade preamp with a Carver power ampp, into a 2 12 cabinet. On his steady NYC gigs, he uses a Twin and (gasp!) a pedalboard. |
