Re: Carvin X-100 amp mods?
heres something i used to do with my x 60 and x100. i never thought those amps were that great, but the way i ran mine made them sound really good. i stopped using the distortion channel and i used the clean chan for distortion and clean. i know it sounds nuts, but it works really good on some of the X amps. i did it by putting a processor in the effects loop, then turning the clean channel's volume all the way up. then i'd use the volume control on the processor as the amp's master volume.this would have the clean channel really crunching, and i could get a nice semi clean by turning the guitar to about 5. and i'd get over the top by boosting the guitar's signal with a tube screamer with the vol full up and distortion way down.
this worked fantastic with the X60, but wasn't as good with the 100. but try it anyway because you may find it better than the distortion channel, even on the X100. i did.
you can use anything with a volume on it instead of a processor in the loop. you could even put a pot in the amp instead to turn the loop input down. also, you may want to turn the clean channel down to 7 or something less than full, i just used it on 10 cuz i wanted a lot of gain for the type of music i was playing at the time.
and by the way, i told another guy online about this, and he tried it and was somewhat blown away. so it's definatly worth a try since it'll take a minuite to try it.
